CATARACTS

Understanding Cataracts

A cataract occurs when the eye's natural lens becomes cloudy. Much like a camera lens needs to be clear to capture sharp images, your lens must remain transparent to let light pass through properly. Over time, various factors can cause the proteins in the lens to break down, leading to this cloudiness.
Just as a foggy camera lens results in blurry photos, a cloudy eye lens reduces your vision. This decline in clarity is what we refer to as a cataract.
The clouding process develops gradually and is irreversible—the lens never returns to its original clarity. While eye drops may help slow the progression slightly, surgery is the only effective treatment. That’s why we offer same-day cataract surgery to restore clear vision quickly and safely.

Cataract Surgery with Multifocal Intraocular Lenses (IOLs)

There are two main types of intraocular lenses used for cataract surgery.
We recommend the most suitable lens based on your lifestyle needs.

ICL

Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL)

ICL is a vision correction procedure that involves implanting a soft, biocompatible lens inside the eye, commonly referred to as an "intraocular contact lens."
In fact, some even refer to it as a “permanent contact lens” thanks to its lasting clarity and maintenance-free nature.
ICL offers exceptional precision in vision correction, delivering a visual quality that far surpasses that of conventional glasses, contact lenses, or other methods of correction.

Surgical Procedure

  1. 1Application of anesthetic eye drops and creation of a 3mm corneal incision.

※The small 3mm incision requires no sutures. While antibiotic eye drops are needed post-surgery, the wound closes quickly and heals naturally.

  2. 2The folded lens is inserted through the incision using an injector, allowing it to unfold naturally inside the eye. The expanded lens edges are secured in the ciliary sulcus.

  3. 3The same procedure is performed on the other eye. The entire surgery takes only 15-20 minutes for both eyes.

※After the procedure, you’ll rest for 30–60 minutes while the anesthesia wears off, followed by a brief examination before you can go home.

LASIK

LASIK Surgery

LASIK corrects nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism by reshaping the cornea using an excimer laser. Creating a corneal flap minimizes surface damage, resulting in less post-operative discomfort and faster visual recovery.

Procedure Steps

  1. 1You will lie comfortably on a bed while anesthetic drops are applied.

  2. 2A femtosecond laser creates a flap. This process takes about 15 seconds per eye.

  3. 3The flap is lifted, and the excimer laser reshapes the cornea. Treatment time varies depending on the prescription.

  4. 4The flap is repositioned and the cornea is properly aligned.

  5. 5The flap adheres naturally. After examination, a 10-minute rest period in the recovery room completes the procedure.
